Staff collaborate for World Cancer Day

Third sector, research and NHS staff came together for World Cancer Day last week, to learn more about services and innovations across cancer care.

Staff from the Cambridge Biomedical Campus enjoyed visiting stands, taking part in break-out sessions and interactive zones, which were hosted by a range of charities and NHS services, including Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust, Maggie’s and the breast, urological and skin cancer departments.

The Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital (CCRH) team also had a stand and were delighted to show staff the hospital model and answer their questions, on everything from the number of patient rooms and pharmacies in the building to where certain wards and units will be located.

Lead Cancer Nurse at Cambridge University Hospitals, Ingela Oberg, said: “Moments like this are important to highlight the fantastic work that already exists within cancer, but it is also important to bring the whole campus together to focus our minds on how we can work collaboratively to improve care in future, especially with CCRH in mind.”

Alongside patients, staff have been involved in every step of the Cancer Hospital project, from helping to plan day units and wards with architects to exploring digital opportunities in the new building to improve patient care.
